Welcome to reVision, a blog that will focus on the art of narrative craft.
A little about G.D. Peters: I’m a lawyer who closed my own trial practice to write full time. That transitioned to the MFA Program at City College of New York, which itself transitioned to an adjunct teaching position with the City University of New York (both at City College and Lehman College). I also teach at Gotham Writer’s Workshop, and for the Bard College Clemente Course in the Humanities, at Children’s Village in Harlem. My website can be found at GDPeters.com
This blog will focus on the elements of narrative craft, from the fundamentals of proper manuscript and dialog format (check the Format page) to the way that stories work (Story, Plot, Structure), to Setting, to Point of View, to Showing and Telling, to Characterization, to Voice and Style, Theme, and Narrative Devices, among other topics.
Following this blog will be like taking a collegiate level advanced fiction workshop (indeed, my posts will often be comprised of chapters and chapter excerpts from the text I wrote for that course).
I will also provide writing Prompts and refer you to exemplary stories that you can read online (where copyright permits) that will serve as examples of the techniques discussed in the posts.
I hope these lessons will help you with your writing. Please contact me with any comments or questions via the Contact page, or leave a comment on any of the posts.
Thanks for stopping by.
